Algonquin College of the Ottawa Valley offers a 2-year diploma program named Outdoor Adventure (ODA). It is a program that focuses on training and educating students to become outdoor professionals and leaders within their field. Throughout the two years they receive over 1200 hours of hard skill training in all aspects of outdoor adventure. From whitewater skills on the Ottawa River, to techincal ice climbing and rescue techniques, ODA covers the vast majority. Not only do they recieve this exposure to many different activites, they also recieve academic education courses in outdoor leadership, risk management, marketing and many more.

As a culminating project at the very end of their last semester, ODA students are to assemble into groups and plan and execute an expedition of a minimum of 7 days. This expedition will take all of the skills they have learned within two years and put them to the test.

Our group has choosen to go to the Applachian Mountains on the island of Newfoundland and complete a 1o-day backcountry trek through the difficult winter terrain of the Long Range Mountain range.
